Slim Down Sundays -- Volume 2

One of the bloggers that I stalk follow, Natalie, has started a Trim Down Thursdays challenge to motivate and document her weight loss success. I've decided to come out of hiding and link up with my journey, so here goes nothing!

Update from Last Week: I was mentioned on Natalie's blog! Whoo hoo! That's a first for me by someone I don't know in person. So exciting and motivating! :) Anyhoo... back to the business at hand. This week was kind of a loss. Working over time and eating out too many times, not to excuse myself or anything... I didn't gain any weight but I was not as successful with losing as I have been and know I can be. My plan is to work on working out.

Weigh In: Saturday, May 26, at meeting, 179.4 lbs, down 0.4.  I have to admit, I didn't try as hard as I should have.

My Weekly Motivation:  Monday is a holiday, find a way to indulge intelligently :-)

Exercise: What's that?  We took a couple of walks this week, carrying the monster in the snugli, so yay for weight-bearing walking!! Also vacuumed/cleaned the main floor like a madwoman.

Share the Wisdom of Others: Change the way you think about exercise. Find something you enjoy and do it. Any activity is good. Break it down into more manageable chunks, 10 minutes here, 10 minutes there and before you know it, you have 30 minutes done, bam. As my doc says, you can do anything for 10 minutes. If you like to read or listen to music, do it while moving. Make a deal with yourself, if you want to watch a certain show tonight, you can watch it but only if you're on the treadmill while doing so. Trick yourself!!

First Degree Goal: Pre-pregnancy weight of 172 pounds. Getting closer!!!

Second Degree Goal: Find an activity that I enjoy in order to add in some exercise. Still working on this...

Ultimate Goal: 140 pounds/feel good in my skin/fit in single digit size clothing.

  1. Hi there!! I'm so glad you found me and I'm now going to follow your weight loss to hopefully provide some of the support that so many have provided me in my journey. It's funny that when you commented on my blog post that you mentioned how I do it w/ 3 little ones while it's hard for you w/ just 1. When I had my first, I thought my baby weight was just going to fall off. I was SO overwhelmed with life--having a baby at 23, knowing not a single other mother in or around where we lived, being a newlywed, trying to care for our first home, etc. Exercise during the first year seemed so difficult to fit in. I did try out a stroller fitness group and jazzercize, both of which I liked, but neither helped me to do much to get fit. I would go home from class feeling so exhausted that I would end up sleeping the entire time my baby napped, then that would just add to the overwhelmed feeling because I should've been using nap time to make dinner, clean, etc. I was fortunate to be a stay-at-home-mom from day one, but I had no idea how to manage my time, let alone my weight and it all just frustrated me.

    There is hope though! Four years & 2 kids into motherhood I finally figured out how to balance more things and I joined a gym where I started working out like I'd never done in my entire life. I set very small goals at the beginning--to make it to the gym 2 days a week was one such goal. At first, as long as I was at the gym I didn't care what I did. Getting there was a bigger deal than those first few weeks of workouts. Sometimes I'd just walk on the treadmill, other times I'd sit on the recumbent bike and read a book. About a month in, the fitness bug "bit" me and I started to work harder and see weight falling off. At that time I started out right about where I started this time post-third-baby which is 35 or so lbs. above pre-pregnancy weight (pre-first-baby).

    I got into pretty good shape after being bitten by the fitness bug, although it was just in time to get pregnant for the third time. It took me months to get back on the bandwagon gym-wise, but I'm there now and working harder than ever.

    I go into all of this to share that learning how to balance it all takes time. Don't be afraid to make yourself a priority. You will be a better mommy and wife if you take some time for you. 1 hour exercising is only about 4% of your whole day. You are so worth that time. With three kids, it's imperative that I work out at a gym or when they're in bed, so I look at my mornings at the gym as my little break. I'm never there more than 90 minutes, and I come out refreshed and ready for the rest of the day while my girls have had a great time playing with their friends in the childcare room.

    Hang in there, keep setting those small goals and make time for you. I'm looking forward to your next post and how you did over this holiday weekend!!

  2. I think you did great! I know .4 doesn't look like a huge jump but I always try to tell myself that weeks like that just mean that I'm hitting my stride and my body is telling me to change things up a bit. Surprise your body and you'll see changes!

    How did you do yesterday with the holiday?? Yesterday was fine for me, but only b/c Sunday was our big picnic day and I did indulge. I didn't go overboard, though and picked somewhat smart choices so I'm not really disappointed in myself.
